Because those Olde Mother guys are just the best, aren’t they? Plus, our dear old friend Shelley, who used to work right here at the Frederick News-Post, serves beer at Olde Mother and we wanted to say hi. Actually, not really — she’s almost always wayyyyyyy mean to us, but hey: It was great to see her!
HOW MUCH DID I WANT TO TRY ANY OF THESE BEERS?
I like Olde Mother beers. In fact, I even bought a crowler of the Oatmeal Stout for a friend of mine for Christmas. And better yet: He liked it! So, I was happy to try some of these beers, all of which I had not tried previously (with the exception of the stout, of course). So, we’ll go with, “I wanted to try these beers about as much as I want to eat food every day, which is, in fairness, a real, whole lot.”
Well, these guys are moving soon, to a bigger, snazzier place downtown. But I’ve always been fascinated with their current bar. I’ve always felt that it’s sort of like walking into the movie “50 First Dates.” Kind of Hawaiian, but not really. Small. Shack-like. A woman running around with a baseball bat, ready to hit any man who attacks Adam Sandler. We miss you, Shelley!
THE BEST THING TO COME OUT OF THIS MESS
Two things. One, for the first time in the history of Chris Makes Colin Drink, I stuck Chris with the tab! Hahahahahahahaha! And two, Chris alerted me that someone said the following about my band’s performance at Monocacy Brewing a couple weeks ago: “If I wanted to listen to death metal … .” Hahahahahahahaha! “DoubleMotorcycle” and “Death Metal” belong in the same sentence about as much as the words “Mike Pence” and “Tolerant.” Hahahahahahahaha and … ha!
NOW, ABOUT THE BEER …
Ladies and gentlemen. Stop the presses. End all brewing now. Cancel your plans. Alert the men, women and children: I have found my absolute favorite beer in the history of Chris Makes Colin Drink and that beer is Sips of Summer. Holy mother of Moses, that concoction is life-changing. And here’s the thing: I don’t even like fruity beers! But this was next-next-next-level stuff. I don’t know how they did it, but I need that for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Chris, meanwhile, loved the super-top-secret beer that was offered after the fact, which was a raspberry sour. But between the Sips and the Oatmeal Stout, this, overall, to me, was my favorite trip to date and it’s not close. When it came to rankings, Chris listed his as such: 1. Super-Top-Secret Beer. 2. Solana. 3. Sips Of Summer. 4. Irish Bread Basket. 5. Impressionist IPA. 6. Oatmeal Stout. 7. Hazed And Confused. Me? I had 1. Sips Of Summer. 2. Sips Of Summer. 3. Sips Of Summer. 4. Sips Of Summer. 5. Sips Of Summer. 6. Sips Of Summer. 7. Sips Of Summer.
WILL WE BE GOING BACK?
Does a one-legged duck swim in circles? I got three words: Sips. Of. Summer.
